Trauma Therapy in Pakistan

Trauma isn't only what happened — it's what your mind and body still do about it. Flinching, numbness, staying alert when there's no danger. It can be one event or years of them. Working through it takes time, and there are approaches specifically built for it.

Why Therapy for Trauma Matters

Go at your pace, not the therapy's

Trauma work should never rush. A good psychologist builds stability first and only then goes near the difficult material.

Understand your reactions

Hypervigilance, numbness and flashbacks are not weakness — they're what a nervous system does after threat. That reframe helps.

Get your body settled

Trauma lives in the body as much as the memory. Grounding work comes before anything else.

Say it once, safely

Many people have never told anyone the whole thing. Doing so with someone trained for it is different from telling a friend.

Loosen what it means about you

Trauma often leaves beliefs behind — that you're at fault, or unsafe, or unlovable. Those can be worked on.

Reclaim what you avoid

Trauma narrows life quietly. Therapy works on giving those parts back.

Types of Therapy for Trauma

Group 1261152996.png

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Recalling the memory while following a repeated left-right movement, which appears to help the brain file it differently.

Strong evidence behind it, and it needs less talking about detail than other approaches.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Structured work on the memory and the beliefs it left behind.

Well-researched, and it moves in clear stages you can see.

Prolonged Exposure

Revisiting the memory in a controlled, repeated way until its charge reduces.

Demanding, and effective. Only started once you're stable enough.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Skills for managing overwhelming emotion — grounding, distress tolerance, regulation.

Often the first stage, particularly where trauma was prolonged.

Walking into class or speaking up used to make my heart race and mind go blank. Reading Braindost’s blog, I realized it was social anxiety. Therapy felt like a hopeful step. It helped me speak up and finally feel like myself around others.

Growing up around constant shouting, I learned to stay quiet. Even now, loud voices make my chest tighten. Through therapy with Braindost, I realized it was childhood PTSD. Now I’m slowly finding peace.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions people ask before they book. If yours isn't here, ask us.

What is trauma therapy?

Structured work with a psychologist to reduce the ongoing effects of a traumatic experience, at a pace you control.

Will I have to describe what happened in detail?

Not necessarily. Some approaches, EMDR in particular, need very little detail. You decide what you share.

What if it happened a long time ago?

Trauma doesn't expire. People come to therapy years or decades later, and it still helps.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. Some people find a handful of sessions enough; others work over several months. Your psychologist will talk it through after the first session rather than committing you to a package upfront.

How much is a session, and how do I pay?

Each psychologist sets their own fee and session length — you'll see theirs on their booking page before confirming. Sessions start from PKR 1,499. Payment is online, by card, Easypaisa or JazzCash.

Can I choose my psychologist?

Yes. Browse the profiles, read how each one works, and book whoever feels right. If it isn't the right fit, you can switch.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Sessions are private between you and your psychologist. The limited exceptions — where there's a risk to your safety or someone else's — are the same ones that apply to therapy anywhere.
