How it works
Making Mental Wellness Easy

Types of Therapy for Abuse
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
This therapy can help the survivor or victim of abuse to gain a sense of control. It helps to understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
It encourages the abuse survivor to identify the unwanted thoughts that trigger emotional distress and replace them with the healthy ones. This positive transition of thinking patterns eventually brings changes in emotions and behaviors.
For example, if a victim or a survivor has thoughts of hopelessness, worthlessness, guilt, or keeps blaming himself, it will lead to stress, anxiety, or depression. But CBT can help him change his perspective on himself and the experience. It empowers him with coping techniques to deal with negative thoughts and intense emotions.
Trauma Focused Therapy
This type of psychotherapy studies the effects of traumatic experiences on the mental, emotional, and physical health of the victim of abuse and works to mitigate them.
This healing journey in trauma focused therapy starts with offering a safe and supportive environment where the survivor is guided on the impacts of abuse on his mind and body. He is asked to write or talk about his harsh experience while he is taught coping techniques to manage the emotional arousal. This expression of his traumatic experience helps him to reduce its power over his present life.
Along with the therapist he learns to recognize and challenge those negative thoughts and stimuli that resulted from abuse.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR therapy differs from regular conversation therapy. It involves remembering your trauma experiences while moving your eyes in a certain pattern, usually in accordance with your therapist's hand movement.
You learn how to reprocess your thoughts about trauma and lessen the effects of abuse in this therapy for PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
It is a modified version of cognitive behavioral therapy. Dialectical means the coexistence of two opposing views. Because with this therapy, you learn to accept your current reality while also changing unhelpful behaviors. It's similar to embracing reality without experiencing pain.
It emphasizes four skill sets: emotion control, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It teaches us how to live in the moment, deal with stress, manage extreme emotions, and strengthen our relationships with others.
It was originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), but it has since been altered to address a wide range of mental health concerns.
