Why Therapy for Behavioral Health Matters

Strong Coping Mechanism

A behavioral therapist empowers you with practical strategies to challenge negative thoughts and behaviors, their triggers, and intense emotions to improve your daily functioning.

Healthy Social Interaction

Therapy gives you the confidence to communicate your needs, ideas, and emotions clearly while fostering empathy for others, which enhances your socializing experiences.

Better Self-Awareness

Behavioral therapy gives you a chance to understand how your thoughts, actions, and feelings are interlinked and shape one another. This self-analyzing gives you a sense of control.

Personalized Treatment

Therapy is not a one-for-all solution. Rather, you are analyzed as a unique individual, and a personalized therapy plan is designed to treat your behavioral health issues.

Improves Mental Health

Many mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, OCD, or PTSD, are treated through behavioral therapy by identifying and replacing the underlying negative behaviors of them.

Builds Self-Confidence

It boosts your self-confidence and builds decision-making power while helping with positive behavioral changes, emotional regulation, and mental stability.

Types of Therapy for Behavioral Health

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT involves recognizing and changing the negative thinking and behavior patterns. It is based on the idea that thoughts and beliefs shape your actions and moods. So, by changing the way you think, you can change your behaviors and emotions. Its goal is to help you develop positive and helpful thoughts and behaviors that can improve your quality of life.

This form of therapy focuses on the current problem and its solution. It is considered highly effective to treat anxiety or depression.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a sort of cognitive behavioral therapy that is frequently used when dealing with severe emotions or interpersonal problems. In this therapy you learn to embrace your current struggle with high emotions while taking steps to change the problematic behavior.

It helps you develop stress management skills, handle extreme emotions, and strengthen your relationships with others.

Dr. Marsha Linehan designed DBT to address the symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD), which is an emotional regulation disorder characterized by suicidal behavior, sadness, unstable personal relationships, and other symptoms. But it has since been altered to treat a wide range of mental health conditions.

Exposure Therapy

If fear or worry is holding you back, exposure therapy can help. In this behavioral therapy, with supervision and assistance, you are gradually and carefully introduced to the things that cause you anxiety. You learn to cope with the resulting tension or anxiety. Then, gradually, you face more difficult situations without feeling as anxious as you did previously. You develop control over your emotions and thoughts to remain calm in the face of your fears. For that purpose, your therapist helps you with relaxation techniques along the way.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

This type of treatment focuses more on changing your behavior than your feelings and thoughts. It implies that the objective is to live a decent life rather than to feel good. It increases your acceptance of difficult inner events.

In ACT, you define your primary life values and make a commitment to actions that help you achieve them. As a result, you can develop resistance to engaging in problematic behaviors.
