Types of Therapy for Depression

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT focus is current thoughts and symptoms. Our thoughts, feelings and behavior are interlinked in everyday functioning. Change in one of them can affect the other two. CBT helps you to recognize this relationship between your thoughts and behaviors and their effect on you.

It modifies the negative thought and behavior patterns that are disrupting your normal daily functioning. These changes can lead you to healthy behavior and emotional balance.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

This therapy, along with the strategies of cognitive therapy, use mindfulness meditation to cope with symptoms of depression. It aims to modify negative thoughts and cultivate kinder self-view.

With mindfulness training, you can develop a positive perspective, present moment awareness, ability to alter thoughts, and a compassionate attitude to yourself without being stuck in negative emotions.

This mindful awareness helps you to trace out the pattern of your thoughts and emotions that are linked to your depression and alter your response to them.

Interpersonal Therapy(IPT)

IPT helps you to improve your relationship with others and resolve the problems you are having in a significant relationship due to your current depressive episode.

In this therapy, your social and emotional functioning, and interaction with your relationships are evaluated to identify the problems. Then strategies are picked out to mitigate their effect on your relationships and to reduce the symptoms of depression. Besides, you gain interpersonal communication skills and improve your coping skills.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This form of therapy, also known as psychoanalytic therapy, explores the unconscious mind and recognizes the unresolved conflicts in the past that might be shaping your current depression.

It dives deeper into your emotional layers, unconscious thoughts and early experiences to find out how past events can impact your present behavior and emotions.

This helps you to improve your self-awareness and identify those emotions you are afraid to acknowledge.
